Then always register with a GP in your area. <br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hapmaastricht.nl\/aangesloten-praktijken\/\" id=\"8004\">Search this page<\/a> <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">to a GP in your area.<br><\/span><br>The GP will have all your medical details after registration. <br>That is very important to us. We can help you if you call us. <br><strong>Please note! <\/strong>The General Practitioner Maastricht &amp; Heuvellannd is only available for emergencies <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">outside the opening hours of the general practitioner.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does healthcare work in the Netherlands?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the video below you will learn how healthcare works in the Netherlands. <br>Always register with a GP in your area. You go to the doctor for all your health problems, both physical and psychological.<br>The GP can treat most health problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GP does not always automatically prescribe medication. <br>Sometimes the GP makes a home visit, these consultations are more expensive.<br>If necessary, the GP will refer you to a specialist in the hospital. <br>In the Netherlands, you are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">not<\/span> allowed to go directly to the hospital, unless it is an emergency.<br><br>If you need treatment by a specialist, you will always receive a referral letter from your GP. This is usually done digitally. Keep this letter safe. You may need it later for your health insurance company. <br><br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lz_mEKb3_as<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Need urgent medical help outside the opening hours of your own GP?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you urgently need the help of a GP at night, at the weekend or on public holidays? Then go to the website of the General Practitioner Maastricht &amp; Heuvelland. <br>You can answer a number of questions here via <a href=\"\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Do I have to go to the doctor (MINDD).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you advised to call us? Then call +31 43 7500 123.<br>You get a triage nurse on the phone. It asks for: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>your name, address, date of birth and a telephone number where you can be reached,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information about your health insurance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your proof of identification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the names of all the medications you are taking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h2\">Bring to an appointment at the General Practitioner:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>your proof of identification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Details about your health insurance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>payment (cash, credit or debit card). If you pay in cash, you will receive a receipt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Health insurance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to bring your insurance papers to the General Practitioner. <br>Don&#8217;t have Dutch health insurance? Then you have to pay cash at the counter. <br>If you pay in cash, you will receive a receipt.
